Discovering the sources of quality:
Current research initiatives & results

Alexander Rossmann
University St.Gallen (CH)

In the last decade, various research initiatives have posted insights into the antecedents and outcomes of quality in B2B relationships. Quality itself is a complex phenomenon with multiple meanings across the value chain. Therefore, the University of St. Gallen ran a large-scale research project in 2008 to assess the sources of quality in the IT sector. More than 300 CIOs and top executives of major suppliers took part. The results carried significant implications for e.g. cooperation strategies, measurability of services and value, early error detection, and other issues of note.

SYNONYM - Building secure global test environments with synthetic business simulation

Robin Heizmann
Credit Suisse (CH)

In 2006 Credit Suisse Private Bank IT decided to build new secure data centers for offshore/global SW development and testing (that are detached from existing CS data centers and intranet) through program SYNONYM.
In order to enable global SW development and testing that is compliant to national legislation and IT risk and legal regulations (Swiss Banking Secrecy), program SYNONYM established a highly secure development zone and introduced purely synthetic test data, based on the so called "Virtual Bank" concept for simulation of real bank business.

The presentation highlights:

  • motivation and handling of legal requirements for this initiative
  • today's solution and procedure to get there
  • aspects of the "Virtual Bank" with synthetic data generation
  • challenges for both the SYNONYM program team and the SW development and testing community
  • our plans for future enhancements towards virtualized multi-environment-, next-generation SW-Engineering.
